PJ Harvey has released nine critically acclaimed albums, been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, and is the only artist to have been awarded the UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize twice (Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea and Let England Shake). Her current album, The Hope Six Demolition Project, reached #1 in the UK Album Charts. The release of PJ Harvey’s first collection of poetry, The Hollow of the Hand, in collaboration with photographer Seamus Murphy (Bloomsbury 2015), was celebrated with two sold-out shows at Royal Festival Hall as part of the London Literature Festival. In 2016, PJ Harvey presented readings from The Hollow of the Hand at the Genoa International Poetry Festival (Genoa, Milan IT), the International Literature Festival Utrecht (NL), Les Rencontres de la photographie d’Arles (FR), Gimme Shelter (UK), and Melbourne Writers Festival (AU). Later in the year she began to introduce poems from her new collection to audiences at the Spoken Word Festival Woerdz (CH); Crossing Border Festival (NL); and Southbank Centre for National Poetry Day (UK), including a reading of her new poem “Grouse Pen” for BBC Radio 4’s Front Row.
