Jorge Herralde

Jorge Herralde, born in Barcelona in 1935, is founder and director of Editorial Anagrama since 1969. Since then it has published over 3,000 titles. The catalogue brings together many great writers in the spheres of literature and non-fiction, both in Spanish language and translated. This publishing company has always promoted Spanish and Latin American literature, to a large part thanks to the Herralde Novel Prize (since 1983), often awarded to little-known writers who have become classics of our times, as is the case of Roberto Bolaño. It also awards the Anagrama Essay Prize, since the year 1972. It is important to highlight the great presence of this publishing company on the bookshelves of Latin America, where Anagrama publishes its most significant titles.

He has written several books on the publishing profession, including Opiniones mohicanas (2000) and Por orden alfabético (2006). He has received numerous awards: the National Prize for the Best Services to Cultural Publishing (1994), the Sant Jordi Cross (2000), and the London Book Fair Lifetime Achievement Award (2012). He is an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE, 2005) and Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lletres in France (2006).
