Violeta Kovacsics

A film critic and programmer, she is an expert on contemporary American cinema.

With a PhD in Communication from the Pompeu Fabra University and a thesis on the staging of the word in contemporary United States cinema, she teaches Film History at the Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia (ESCAC) and the Open University of Catalonia. In 2013, together with Deborah Marín, she published Un París de cine (A Cinematic Paris, Lunwerg Editores), in which they roam the city in 55 feature films and, in 2012, she edited the jointly authored volume Very Funny Things (Filmoteca Vasca), as part of the San Sebastian International Film Festival. She is presently working as a film critic in the ICat FM radio programme “Els experts” and for the magazine Caimán CDC. She also takes part in conceptualising the programme of the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival and edits the catalogue of the International Fantastic Film Festival, which is held every year in Sitges.
