María José Llergo

One of the most prominent voices in contemporary flamenco and a singer with a particular affinity for lyrics that shine a light on social struggles.

María José Llergo (Pozoblanco, 1994) studied violin until the age of eighteen in Córdoba. It was there that she came to have a great love of the countryside and where her grandfather showed her the music of the great flamenco and bolero singer-songwriters, while he worked the land. She currently lives in Barcelona, where she studies at the Catalan College of Music. Llergo’s lyrics are a blend of modernity and tradition, as she signs about love, sadness and incomprehension with an honesty that is reminiscent of generations of singers gone by.
