Dimitris Mistakidis

Dimitris Mistakidis was born in Thessalonica, Greece, in 1970. He studied at the Modern Conservatory of Thessalonica and has been a professional musician since 1986. From 1994 to 2004 he was a member of Loxi Falagga, the group of singer/composer Nikos Papazoglou. Since 2002 he has been working with Thanasis Papakonstantinou and his group Laikedelika.

Mistakidis has worked with almost all of Greece’s best-known artistes and done over 120 recording sessions. In April 2005 he took part together with 15 musicians from Mediterranean countries in the international meeting of lute players, held at the Athens Concert Hall.

His aim is to recover the crucial role of the guitar in traditional Greek music. Since 2001 he has taught traditional guitar, lute and ensembles at the Polytechnic University of Epirus.

Mistakidis has published two books: a method for learning the lute and another for the rebetico folk guitar.
