Herman Montoya

Herman Montoya qualified as an anthropologist at the University of Antioquia and is a specialist in Environmental Education and Built Heritage Management and Intervention at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín. He is head of the programme of libraries, reading and heritage of the Secretariat of Citizen Culture of Medellín and coordinates the Reading and Writing Plan.

Montoya has directed several projects, including the formulation of city culture plans; the Medellín 2011-2020 Cultural Development Plan; Medellín, a City Conceived and Constructed on Culture; research into the cultural memory of the Moravia neighbourhood to formulate the programme for the Cultural Development Centre and research into the cultural trajectories of areas where the city’s most recent library facilities have been built.

He has been Under Secretary for Culture of the Secretariat of Citizen Culture of Medellín and spoken at various local, national and international forums. Montoya has published several articles and research projects on cultural and heritage issues.
