An iconic figure in Catalan music in recent decades, Quimi Portet is a free-spirited singer-songwriter. After explosive success as a member of legendary bands from the eighties and nineties, including Los Burros and El Último de la Fila, Portet decided to embark on a solo career, singing in Catalan. Since then, over almost four decades, he has released 11 albums of “moderately modern music,” which have always stood out for their overflowingly creative lyrics.
His songs, full of irony, surrealism and poignant observations on the human condition, reflect a unique personality and an idiosyncratic universe. With bold adjectives and a litany of cultural references, the lyrics by this Astre Intercomarcal [“inter-county celestial body”] have become anthems that have helped enrich the collective imagination of multiple generations of Catalans.
Coinciding with the publication of Cançons en bell llemosí (1987-2020) (La Segona Perifèria, 2025), a compilation of the lyrics from the 130 songs of his solo career, Portet presents a new musical project at Kosmopolis: Si plou, ho farem al Pavelló (Live in Cincinnati) [If It Rains, We’ll Move It to the Pavilion (Live in Cincinnati)], his first live album and first compilation of “greatest hits”, accompanied by Albert Lax (guitar), Txell Rovira (bass), and Ángel Celada (drums). A galactic journey where words become both play and contemplation.
