The Art of Creating Books for Children
Born in Bologna, Beatrice Alemagna has lived and worked in Paris for more than two decades. She graduated from the ISIA Graphic Design School in Urbino and soon began to develop her own visual language, characterized by intense formal freedom, visual sensitivity, and a tender outlook on the world of childhood. Her stories, translated into numerous languages, talk about fear, difference, imagination, and grief. Notable among them are On A Magical Do-Nothing Day (HarperCollins, 2017), The 5 Misfits (Frances Lincoln, 2017), and most recently, Pepper and Me (Penguin, 2024) and The Muddy Majesty of Muck (Penguin, 2026).
Alemagna was awarded the Gold Medal by the Society of Illustrators for Pepper and Me (2024) and the Grande Ourse 2023 by the Montreuil Children’s Book Fair, and she was a finalist for the 2021 Pépite prize for Best Illustrated Book.
