Marta Carnicero i Hernanz is an industrial engineer, technology professor and writer. She has a Master’s degree in Literary Creation from Pompeu Fabra University and is the author of three novels that have received critical acclaim: El cel segons Google [The Sky According to Google] (La Magrana, 2016; Acantilado, 2018),Coníferes [Conifers] (Quaderns Crema; Acantilado, 2020) and, most recently, Matrioixques [Matryoshkas] (Quaderns Crema, 2022; Acantilado, 2023). The latter, which received the 2024 Estado Crítico prize for narrative, sensitively addresses the use of rape as a weapon of war. Through two female main characters, the novel explores trauma, systematic violence, the weight of historical and family heritage, and the need for reparations. She is a regular collaborator with Barcelona Libraries, Betevé and Babelia.
