To mark the 120th anniversary of the publication of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, we look at various television revisitations of this and other characters from Gothic literature, centring particularly on the recent case of Penny Dreadful.

Penny Dreadful is a TV series set in Victorian London and inspired by some of the most emblematic characters of the horror literature of the time, such as Dorian Gray, Frankenstein and Dracula. The series was produced by Sam Mendes and originally aired on Showtime from 2014 to 2016.
