Few filmmakers have understood flamenco like Isaki Lacuesta. In his acclaimed La leyenda del tiempo (The Legend of Time, 2006) and Entre dos aguas (Between Two Waters, 2018) he shunned exoticism and facile images to heighten everything of the avant-garde and experimentation that flamenco shares with cinema. Now, Lacuesta has once again amplified flamenco with Retratos mudos, a performance-screening of a series of soundless films of great flamenco artists, who will be accompanied by live music from the LaboratoriA group, formed by Aina Núñez, Isabelle Laudenbach, Cristina López, and Ana Brenesquatre, four young creators who experiment, on the basis of the flamenco tradition, with music, song, and performance. This will be followed by a dialogue between Isaki Lacuesta and the artist Pedro G. Romero.

Closing session of the Flamenca Barcelona film cycle, organised by El Dorado SFB in collaboration with the Filmoteca de Catalunya and Zumzeig.
