The advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has sparked urgent questions for literary professionals. How does this technology affect copyright, the professions of writing and translating, and the sustainability of working conditions in those professions?

This session, organized by the Association of Catalan Language Writers (AELC), begins with a presentation by Sebastià Portell, president of the AELC, focusing on the impact of GAI on literary creation and translation, with an overview of the technology and the work that has been done so far on the national, state and international levels. Afterwards, a round table with authors and specialists will look at how the profession is transforming, the risks of this new reality, and what protection strategies are available to authors.

Finally, a second panel expands the discussion beyond AI, because independent of the challenges presented by AI, there are many rights that remain to be cemented for the collective of writers and translators:  fair remuneration for literary activities, translators’ visibility, decent fees, the regulation of contractual models…

A morning of reflection to collectively reimgaine the future of the professions of writing and translating.
