Lali Barrière

Musician and mathematician, she combines her artistic activity with teaching mathematics, creative programming, and research.

Lali Barrière (Barcelona, 1964) holds a PhD in Mathematics and is a research professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. She has developed her research on the graph theory, communication algorithms and combinatorial geometry. She is currently researching the relationships between mathematics, art and technology, and is a member of the teaching team for the Master’s degree in Audiovisual Innovation and Interactive Environments at the Escola BAU.

Since 2008 she has been interested in creative applications of programming. In this area, her latest projects are: Lykt (2018), a multisensorial performance (Lali Barrière colours, Ferran Fages sound, Yolanda Uriz aromas); Sediment (2017-2018), an audiovisual duo with the musician Ferran Fages; the programming of the graphic interface for the project GeMuSe by Iván Paz (2016); and Genera Esfera with Anna Carreras, an interactive installation presented at the MIRA Festival 2015. Barrière has also taught workshops with the intersection between art and science as the main subject and as a musician she participates in the free improvisation scene in Barcelona.
