Born in Santiago de Compostela, Berta Dávila began her career in narrative after winning the Biblos Prize for novels for authors under 25; she has since written poetry collections, novels and children’s books. Her notable works include: Carrusel (Barrett, 2019), awarded the Manuel García Barros Prize for novels and the Spanish Critics’ Prize for narrative in the Galician language, which she also won with her poetry collection Raíz da Fenda (Xerais, 2013).
Her novel The Dear Ones (3TimesRebel Press, 2023), about motherhood, family and mourning, won several awards, including the Xerais, the Follas Novas and the Crítica de Galicia. Her latest novel, A ferida imaxinaria (Edicións Xerais, 2024; Les Hores, 2024; Destino, 2024), which is being published simultaneously in Galician, Catalan and Spanish, explores the possibility that life has no purpose and investigates the influence of uprooting and deprivation on dreams and the future. She is currently also the director of the Galician publishing label Rodolfo e Priscilla, together with the writer Carlos Meixade.
