José Luis de Vicente

A cultural researcher and curator of Sonar +D, he is a founder of the Tentacular – Festival of Critical Technologies and Digital Adventures.

His research is concerned with the present and future impacts of social and technological innovation through artifacts, objects, and narratives that explore social scenarios and emergent politics. He is known for producing strongly anti-disciplinary projects that create contexts for collaboration and dialogue among artists, designers, architects, technologists, scientists, activists, and communities. At present, he is the curator of Sónar +D, the congress of digital culture and creative technologies of the Barcelona Sónar Festival, and he also teaches at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. Moreover, he was a founder and co-director of Tentacular, the Festival of Critical Technologies and Digital Adventures at the Matadero in Madrid, and a member of the programming team of Llum BCN, the Barcelona Light Festival. Throughout his career, he has curated many exhibitions in Spain and other countries, including “Big Bang Data” and “After the End of the World” (at the CCCB), “Atmospheric Memory» (Manchester International Festival), “Machines and Souls” (Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid) and “Playtime: Game Mythologies” (Maison D’Ailleurs, Switzerland). He has recently worked on the artistic conception of the acclaimed disc Clamor (Fina Estampa 2021), by Maria Arnal and Marcel Bagés.
