Thinking With our Ears

Noelia Ramírez, Javier Peña, Isabel Cadenas Cañón and Jorge Carrión

Born in A Coruña and residing in Santiago de Compostela, Javier Peña practiced journalism for nine years before joining the cabinet of the Ministry of Culture of the Xunta de Galicia in 2010, where he wrote more than a thousand speeches for the councillors over the course of seven years. This institutional experience inspired his first novel, Infelices [Unhappy] (Blackie Books, 2019).

He is also the author of the books Agnes (Blackie Books, 2021) and Tinta invisible [Invisible Ink] (Blackie Books, 2024), a love letter to his father and a tribute to memory and literature. His work is characterized by a lucid perspective, full of humour and social criticism. In addition to being a writer, he is a teacher and coordinates writing workshops and literary projects in Galicia, including the Obradoiro de novela and the literary residency Cidade da Cultura.
