Mihwa Jo Jeong

Catalan translator of authors like Kim Ae-ran and the Nobel Prize winner Han Kang, she is one of the main introducers of Korean literature in Catalonia.

Born in Busan, South Korea, Mihwa Jo Jeong completed a degree in Philology and Letters in Korea and a PhD in Linguistics and Semiotics in France. She is currently a professor of Korean in the Department of Translation, Interpreting and East Asian Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She is also the director of the Sejong Institute in Barcelona, an official centre dedicated to teaching the Korean language and culture, sponsored by the South Korean government to promote the language and culture.  

She has translated La vegetariana [The Vegetarian] (Rata edicions, 2017) by Han Kang, and, by Kim Ae-ran, Corre, pare, corre! [Run, Dad!] (Godall Edicions, 2017) with Alba Cunill, and A fora ja és estiu [Summer Outside] (Godall Edicions, 2022), with Josep A. Clement Rovira. Recently, she translated Al capvespre [At Dusk] (Gata Maula, 2025), by Hwang Sok-yong, a novel about the dark side of progress in South Korea. She has also translated the children’s story El meu gat fa el mateix que jo [My Cat Copies Me] (Lata de sal, 2013) by Kwon Yoon Duck, and Història de la impremta coreana [History of Printing in Korea] (UAB Publications, 2006) by Byeong-Seon Park Minje.
