Jorge Carrión holds a PhD in Humanities from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, where he codirects the Master in Literary Creation UPF-BSM. From 2000 to 2005 he was a member of the editorial board of the now defunct magazine Lateral, and from 2006 to 2009 he co-directed the literary journal Quimera. He has been a contributor to the “Cultura/s” cultural supplement of the newspaper La Vanguardia for over fifteen years and writes regularly in other media, among them The New York Times.
He has published non-fiction books such as Viaje contra Espacio. Juan Goytisolo y W.G. Sebald (Iberoamericana, 2009), Teleshakespeare (Errata Naturae, 2011), Librerías (finalist in the 2013 Anagrama Essay Prize), and Barcelona. Libro de los pasajes (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2017). Prominent among his experimental projects is Crónica de viaje (Aristas Martínez, 2014). He is the author of the trilogy Los muertos, Los huérfanos and Los turistas (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2014-2015). He writes comic scripts and has curated several exhibitions (The Sebald Variations, CCCB, 2015; Todas las bibliotecas del mañana, Koldo Mitxelena Kulturunea, 2019). He has been translated into fifteen languages and has advised the Kosmopolis literary festival. Among his latest books we find Lo viral (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2019), Membrana (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2021), Todos los museos son novelas de ciencia ficción (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2022) and the reissue of the essay Contra Amazon (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2024), in which he defends bookstores and libraries as forms of cultural resistance against the dominance of large-scale digital distribution.
