Gonçalo M. Tavares and Enrique Vila-Matas are two big names in modern literature with radically different aesthetics and literary offerings but who, from different perspectives, trace the course of time’s disappearance and dissolution. If post-modernity has led stories to break into a thousand pieces, in this new millennium both authors find in literature not a solution to the fading of reality, but ideas, questions and enlightenment for us to reflect upon.

20.30 – Jocelyn Pook Ensemble. Music and Voices for Movies

In collaboration with: British Council

The beautiful and hypnotic music of the Jocelyn Pook Ensemble is the ideal soundtrack for the K19 inaugural session. The group, led by the well-known British composer and violinist who gives it its name, mixes styles and music while fusing string instruments and singing to create mysterious atmospheres. Highlights of their repertoire include the original score for Eyes Wide Shut (1999) by Stanley Kubrick, Gangs of New York (2002) by Martin Scorsese, Chaotic Ana (2007) and Room in Rome (2010) directed by Julio Medem and The Wife (2017) by Björn Runge. In this concert Pook’s compositions are brought to life with the artful voices of Melanie Pappenheim and Tanja Tzarovska and the carnatic singing of Manickam Yogeswaren, who accompany the Ensemble’s string quartet, Gothic harp and Arabic qanun.
