Jeanette Winterson’s novels multiply the viewpoints from which we can contemplate a universal theme: love. How she approaches it in her work, and her interest in experimenting with literary form makes her one of British literature’s most exciting and original authors. Winterson writes about love in defiance of the dominance of normative romantic discourses but reclaims it as a positive emotion that deserves to be experienced by everyone. Far from renouncing it, her characters discover and reclaim it from the margins. In her latest book, The Night Side of the River (Penguin, UK, 2023), Winterson uses ghost stories to go back to this universal topic and to question how technology affects our humanity.

Jeanette Winterson, one of the most stunning creators in British literature today, reviews her literary career with journalist Anna Guitart.
