Experimental mythologies
Just as the western tried to achieve a mythical reconquest of the west, science fiction has become the experimental mythology of our times. Space is now the last pantheon, an Olympus still to be filled and where past and present myths can be reformulated and new collective imaginaries created. Who represents good and evil in immeasurable space? Will we tell multispecies stories in future? Imbibing the foundational stories of the West, creating versions of oriental myths, adapting African traditions, and adding in the heights of pop culture, science fiction is the factory of myths to come.
